Terms of Use

Effective Date: March 2026
Last Updated: March 2026

Please read these Terms of Use carefully before installing or using the Pluriby browser extension ("Pluriby," "the Extension," or "the Service"). By installing, activating, or using Pluriby, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not install or use the Extension.

These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and the developers of Pluriby ("we," "us," or "our"). We are not a law firm and nothing in these Terms constitutes legal advice. We strongly encourage you to consult qualified legal counsel if you have questions about your specific use case.

1. What Pluriby Is

Pluriby is a browser extension that applies AI-generated perspective-based transformations to news articles and other text content that you access through your web browser. These transformations — which we call "lens rewrites" — reframe the emphasis, framing, and ideological perspective of source text in order to demonstrate how the same facts can be presented through different analytical and political frameworks.

Pluriby is a critical media literacy tool. It is designed to help users recognize how framing, word choice, and editorial emphasis shape the presentation of news and information. It is not a news service, a journalistic outlet, or a source of factual reporting.

Pluriby operates client-side within your browser. Source articles are not stored on our servers for rewriting purposes. The rewriting process involves transmitting article text to an AI language model for processing, as described further in Section 7.

2. Nature of Pluriby Output — Read This Carefully

2.1 Lens Rewrites Are Not Factual Reporting

Every piece of text produced by Pluriby through a lens rewrite is an AI-generated perspective-based transformation of a source article. Pluriby output is not journalism. It is not factual reporting. It is not the editorial position of the original publication, the original author, or Pluriby. It is a demonstration of how a given ideological or analytical framework would reframe the presentation of information contained in the source article.

The original source article — as published by its original author and outlet — remains the authoritative factual record. If you want to know what was reported, read the original source.

2.2 AI Output May Contain Errors

Pluriby uses AI language models to generate lens rewrites. These models can and do make mistakes. They may mischaracterize source material, introduce inaccuracies, hallucinate facts that are not in the source, produce incomplete transformations, or generate output that does not accurately reflect the lens it is intended to represent. You should not rely on Pluriby output as a factually accurate account of any event, statement, or situation.

2.3 Lens Rewrites Reflect Ideological Perspectives

Pluriby's lens system is explicitly designed to apply ideological and analytical frameworks to text. These frameworks include but are not limited to leftist, anti-imperialist, left-libertarian, conservative, liberal, socialist, pan-Africanist, feminist, and other perspectives. The output of a given lens reflects that lens's framing — it does not represent Pluriby's editorial position or a neutral account of events. Pluriby does not endorse the positions represented by any individual lens.

3. Transformative Use and Copyright

3.1 Pluriby's Transformative Use Position

Pluriby is designed and operated as a transformative critical tool. The lens rewriting process adds new expression, meaning, and message to source material by subjecting it to analytical reframing for the purpose of media literacy education and critical commentary. We believe this use is consistent with the transformative use doctrine recognized under United States copyright law, including the fair use framework of 17 U.S.C. § 107, and analogous doctrines in other jurisdictions.

Pluriby's output does not substitute for the original source article in the market. It presupposes the existence of the original. It cannot be understood without reference to the original. It serves a fundamentally different purpose from the original — critical analysis and media literacy, not news delivery.

3.2 We Do Not Guarantee Copyright Protection

We believe Pluriby's operation constitutes transformative fair use. However, fair use is a legal defense determined on a case-by-case basis, not a guaranteed right. We do not represent or warrant that your use of Pluriby, or any specific rewrite produced by Pluriby, is protected under applicable copyright law in your jurisdiction. Copyright law varies by country and by specific facts. We are not your copyright attorneys.

3.3 Your Responsibility for How You Use Output

You are solely responsible for ensuring that your use of Pluriby output complies with applicable copyright law. Pluriby is designed for personal use and critical media literacy purposes. Using Pluriby output in ways that go beyond personal critical use — including republishing, redistributing, or commercially exploiting lens rewrites without appropriate disclosure and legal authorization — may expose you to copyright liability. We are not responsible for any such liability.

3.4 Pluriby Does Not Claim Ownership of Source Articles or Rewrites

We do not claim any ownership interest in the source articles processed by Pluriby. We do not claim copyright in the lens rewrite output. Ownership of source articles remains with their original copyright holders. Lens rewrite output is generated by AI at your direction through your use of the Extension.

4. Prohibited Uses

You may not use Pluriby or its output for any of the following purposes:

5. Disclosure Requirements When Sharing

If you share, publish, or distribute content produced by Pluriby — in whole or in part, in any medium — you must clearly and conspicuously disclose:

A disclosure such as "This is an AI-generated perspective rewrite produced by Pluriby and does not represent the original reporting" is an example of adequate disclosure. Failure to provide adequate disclosure when sharing Pluriby output may expose you to legal liability.

6. Accuracy, Reliability, and No Reliance

Pluriby output should not be relied upon for any purpose that requires factual accuracy, including but not limited to:

7. Data, Privacy, and AI Processing

7.1 Article Text Transmission: In order to generate lens rewrites, Pluriby transmits the text of articles you are viewing to an AI language model for processing. By using Pluriby on any article, you consent to this transmission.

7.2 Account and Usage Data: Pluriby may collect account information, usage data, and extension settings as necessary to provide the Service. Please review our Privacy Policy.

7.3 Third-Party AI Services: Pluriby uses third-party AI language model services. By using Pluriby, you acknowledge that article text you process is also subject to the terms and privacy policies of those third-party AI providers.

8. Subscriptions, Payments, and Refunds

Paid subscriptions are billed on a recurring basis. You authorize us to charge your payment method. You may cancel at any time through your account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. We do not provide refunds for partial billing periods except where required by law.

9. Disclaimer of Warranties
