Privacy Policy

Effective Date: March 2026 | Last Updated: March 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how Pluriby ("Pluriby," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you install and use the Pluriby browser extension ("the Extension" or "the Service"). By installing or using Pluriby, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.

We are committed to being transparent about what data we collect and why. If you have questions about this policy, contact us at pluriby@gmail.com.

1. What Pluriby Is

Pluriby is a browser extension that applies AI-generated perspective-based transformations to news articles and other text content you access through your web browser. When you activate Pluriby on an article, the text of that article is transmitted to our backend service, which uses an AI language model to generate a rewritten version through a selected ideological or analytical lens.

Pluriby output is not journalism or factual reporting. It is an AI-generated perspective transformation designed for critical media literacy purposes. The original source article remains the authoritative factual record.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Account Information

When you create a Pluriby account, we collect:

Authentication is handled through Google Firebase Authentication. We do not store your password directly — Firebase manages credential storage securely on our behalf.

2.2 Usage Data

When you use Pluriby, we collect anonymized usage events to understand how the product is being used and to improve it. These events include:

We do not collect or store the content of articles you rewrite. We do not build a profile of which specific articles you read or which specific news sources you visit.

2.3 Article Text Transmission

This is the most important data practice to understand clearly:
When you activate a lens rewrite on an article, the text content of that article is extracted from the page in your browser and transmitted to our Firebase Cloud Functions backend for processing. Our backend then transmits that text to the Google Gemini API, which generates the rewritten version. The rewritten text is returned to your browser and displayed in the extension.

We do not permanently store the article text after processing is complete. Article text is transmitted for the purpose of generating a rewrite and is not retained in our database. By activating a rewrite on any article, you consent to this transmission of that article's text to our backend and to the Google Gemini API.

2.4 Device Identifier

Pluriby generates and stores a unique device identifier in your browser's local storage. This identifier is used to enforce free tier usage limits and to prevent abuse of the free tier across multiple accounts on the same device. It is not linked to your personal identity and is not shared with third parties for advertising purposes.

2.5 Payment Information

If you purchase a Pro subscription or a usage top-up, payment processing is handled entirely by Stripe. Pluriby does not collect, store, or have access to your credit card number, bank account details, or other financial information. Stripe stores payment information in accordance with its own Privacy Policy and PCI DSS compliance standards.

2.6 Bookmarks and Notes

If you use Pluriby's bookmarks and notes features, that content is stored locally in your browser's storage and, where applicable, in your user account in our Firebase database. Bookmarks and notes are associated with your account and are retained until you delete them or delete your account.

2.7 Support Communications

If you contact us at pluriby@gmail.com, we retain your email address and the content of your communication for the purpose of responding to your inquiry and improving the product.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not use your data for targeted advertising. We do not share your data with advertisers.

4. Third-Party Services

Pluriby uses the following third-party services to operate. Each of these services has its own privacy policy governing how they handle data transmitted to them:

5. Data Retention

6. Data Security

We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures including HTTPS encryption, Firebase Authentication, and strict data-processing windows. While we take reasonable precautions, we cannot guarantee the absolute security of your information.

7. Your Rights and Choices

You have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal information. European users (GDPR) and California users (CCPA) have additional specific rights, including erasure and data portability. To exercise these rights, contact us at pluriby@gmail.com.

8. Children's Privacy

Pluriby is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

9. International Data Transfers

Pluriby is operated from the United States. If you are accessing the Service from outside the United States, your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States.

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Your continued use of Pluriby after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms.
